...the Playing Dice with the Universe Newsblog returns.
Life's been pretty hectic lately, but since I'm sure you don't want to read about my particular woes with Engineering classes I'll instead direct you to some other comics.
The Order of the Stick by Rich Burlew
This is easily one of the best comics I've ever read. While the early strips cater particularly to D&D geeks like myself eventually it takes on a slightly more accesible sense of humor and develops into one of the most engaging stories on the web today. Updates Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. A link to the first strip is here.
Goblins! by Tarol Hunt
This began as kind of a silly comic poking fun at the D&D rules, much as Order of the Stick did. However, while OotS maintains the joke-at-the-end-of-the-strip format, Goblins! has run far afield and turned into a very dramatic story that is sometimes as poignant and sad as it is funny. An excellently spun tale, Goblins is a must-read if you love drama and action in your fantasy tales. The comic updates once a week (sometimes even on Saturdays as he promises). A link to the first strip is here.
Girl Genius by Phil and Kaja Foglio
I stumbled upon this strip entirely by accident a year or so ago and was hooked almost immediately. I know that a number of our readers aren't D&D players, and if you'd like something to read that's adventurous and interesting without being chockful of pen-and-paper RPG references, this is the one for you. Following the adventures of Agatha Clay--the titular girl genius--this comic brings an exciting mix of adventure, humor, and drama all in a Victorian-era world with large mechanical contraptions and giant dirigibles that serve as flying castles. (How can you get more exciting than that?) Girl Genius updates Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. A link to the first strip is here.
These are just my top three; I imagine that Scott has his own picks (if so, I'll see what he's got and maybe they'll make a future news update). As always, thank you for your continued support of Playing Dice with the Universe.
Happy reading!
